Procedure for retraction of published papers
The retraction of published papers in the journal "Fisheries Science of Ukraine" is carried out in accordance with the retraction procedure based on the instructions of the Committee on Publication Ethics (Committee on Publication Ethics) and the current legislation of Ukraine.
A retracted paper is not considered a valid scientific publication and is not recommended for citation
Retraction of a scientific paper is an official mechanism for retracting a paper that has already been published. This mechanism does not involve deleting the paper, but instead allows it to be marked as retracted in order to maintain transparency and citation traceability. Complete deletion is possible only in exceptional cases where this is required by applicable legal regulations (in particular, personal data protection, copyright infringement, enforcement of court decisions) or security considerations.
The purpose of a retraction is to protect the scientific community and the reputation of all parties involved, primarily through adherence to the principles of academic integrity and standards of publication ethics, which is achieved by informing all interested parties about the presence of significant violations, errors, or inaccurate data in the publication that negatively affect its scientific value.
The need to initiate a retraction procedure arises in the event of the discovery or suspicion of a critical situation regarding the reliability of data, methods, or ethics that directly affects the trust in the entire publication. The initiator of the retraction procedure can be all relevant parties (authors, readers, editorial board, reviewers, representatives of scientific and educational institutions, etc.).
The retraction procedure involves:
• submitting a complaint or statement (if initiated by the author) in any form, but with a detailed justification of the reasons for the retraction (must contain facts and evidence base) to the official email of the journal This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with the signature of the person who is the initiator;
• consideration of a complaint or application under a similar procedure;
• promulgation of the decision on the consideration of the complaint. In the event of a positive decision on retraction, a corresponding notice is published, indicating the reason and providing its justification;
• the paper remains published, but is marked as retracted by adding a "Retracted" watermark on each page with the date of retraction. The same mark is included in the content of the corresponding issue, which ensures publicity and transparency of the process. The editorial office sends information about the fact of retraction to the databases, catalogues and registers in which the journal is indexed in accordance with the current requirements of scientific communication.
The editorial board of the journal "Fisheries Science of Ukraine" guarantees compliance with the principles of objectivity, impartiality and confidentiality during the retraction procedure.
The reasons for the decision to retracted are:
• violation of legal norms, academic integrity (plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplication of publication, etc.) and publication ethics, as well as other policies of the journal "Fisheries Science of Ukraine" (incorrect affiliations and other personal data of authors, hidden funding or advertising, lack of information about the use of artificial intelligence, incorrect authorship, conflict of interest, etc.);
• identifying errors in data or analysis (significant statistical miscalculations, incorrect experimental processing, mixed samples, etc.) or interpretations that make results or conclusions unreliable.
A positive decision on retraction directly affects the reputation and career of all co-authors of the paper and does not relieve them of responsibility for the reliability of the data provided and compliance with the norms of academic integrity.
All co-authors of the papers must be informed about the initiation of the retraction procedure and the decision based on its results by sending a corresponding message on the official letterhead of the Institute of Fisheries of the NAAS with a seal and signature in electronic form to the e-mail addresses specified in the authors’ information. The decision on retraction must include: the full names of the authors; the title of the paper; the name of the publication and issue number from which the text is retracted; the initiator of the retraction procedure; the grounds and date of the decision; a link to the page on the publication's website where information about the retraction is provided; the source data of the article and DOI.
The journal editorial board reserves the right to reject papers by authors or reviewers who were involved in the creation of the publication subject to retraction for an indefinite period of time. This is separately notified to the authors or reviewers electronically to the email addresses they provided using the official letterhead of the Institute of Fisheries of the NAAS link with a seal and signature.
Authors and reviewers of the article have the right to appeal, which is carried out by providing additional evidence to the journal's official email ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) and involves the involvement of third parties by the editorial board as additional experts. An appeal can be filed within 14 business days of receiving the decision.
